- Tom Humberstone
- 19 May 2011
Our talented friend Tom Humberstone was visiting us from England last week, being in town to sell his comics at TCAF. We even had a Special Pen Club™ in his honour, where he produced a pile of sweet drawings, including the one below. And speaking of TCAF, it was fantastic, with the usual mix of talented artists, engaged fans and friends, old and new. Thanks very much to everyone who stopped by the Trio Magnus booth to say hi and pick up our stuff!
- TCAF 2011
- 05 May 2011
Join me, Steve Wilson and CTON combining our powers as Trio Magnus this weekend at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival as we create a 6 x 15 foot drawing from scratch! Also check out Koyama Press and a schwack of other talented folks. Did I mention it's free? Lastly: check out the gorgeous poster by Jillian Tamaki...
- Sheridan Grad Show
- 11 April 2011
If you live in Toronto, come on out this Thursday, April 14, to the Sheridan Grad Show: 7:00 pm on the 6th floor of the Burroughes Building, 639 Queen West (just east of Bathurst). Having personally taught a handful of these talented, young illustrators last semester, I can guarantee that the work will be fantastic!
- Toronto Hearts Japan
- 30 March 2011
I've got a piece in an upcoming fundraiser, Toronto Hearts Japan, being hosted by Narwhal Gallery and Invisible Friends. The opening is this Friday, 7–10 pm at the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel this Friday, April 1st, and a silent auction on donated work starts Thursday, March 31 and runs until Tuesday, April 5. If you live in Toronto, come on out and support a very good cause.
- Alex Gorodskoy
- 21 March 2011
Time to feature another talented student, the inimitable Alex Gorodskoy. If George Grosz had been a skate punk, this is what his work would have looked like. Check out Alex's blog here.
- Todd Oldham
- 16 March 2011
I was flattered recently when multi-talented designer Todd Oldham ordered two copies of my book, Spirit City Toronto. Seeing as I am a big fan of his work, this is a true honour. From print to photography to interior design to TV, this guy has done it all! Take a look at his stuff here.
- Jennifer Prior
- 11 March 2011
Last year I had the honour of teaching a class at Sheridan College for the duration of the fall semester. Titled The Subconscious Sketchbook, the class was about how sketchbooks can become an illustrator's (or any artist's) most valuable asset, acting not only as a visual journal and potential conduit for collaboration but also as a metaphysical mirror.
Over the next few weeks, I plan to feature some of the students who created truly spectacular work in sketchbooks that took on lives of their own. First up is Jennifer Prior whose lush, dark dreamscapes hover somewhere between amusing and disturbing. Check out her website, or buy her prints here.

- Spirit City Toronto in 2011 Applied Arts annual
- 23 February 2011
I recently found out that a few pieces from my book, Spirit City Toronto, have been accepted into the 2011 Applied Arts Photography & Illustration annual. Big thanks to my publisher Koyama Press!
- Pyramid Attack!
- 17 February 2011
This is exciting: my good friends Steve Wilson and Arv Slabosevicius of Ghostmilk Studios have teamed up with animator Sean Conly to create a new turbo-charged alliance called Pyramid Attack. It's time to think outside the pyramid! Check out their eye-melting new site if you dare, and be sure to watch the short "Pyramid Attack" animated clip. Brilliant.
